I have my share of "Why did they pick that track? Then again, along with the obvious alternative classics, there are some delightful surprises to be found on this collection too, tracks that even I a diehard record buyer and record store manager had not heard before. Any other record label would have assembled a boxed set aimed at maximum commercial appeal, but the emphasis here is on the best and most creative bands of the s.
There's really not a bad song choice in the whole set. The juxtaposition of so many different styles right next to each other might be jarring, but also makes the music sound fresh and new again. Fun times! Buy one if you can find it. It's easy to look back and laugh about how lame the Eighties were. This collection reminds you that there were some cool aspects of the decade too. Even though most of the tracks recieved limited airplay on commercial radio, they had a huge impact on the generations of artists that followed.
