The set is a best buy and a recommended gift for people who like the blues, along with the Willie Dixon Chess set The Chess Box , and some others. I found my self listening to it over and over again. My words pale in the praise due this masterful set. Any one would be proud to own this incredible set. I'm listening to it as I write this review! It's worth your last money! Not what I wanted, but it was used, so I guess I deserve to get ripped off.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He is a big Muddy Waters fan. He was thrilled! He said the recordings were very good and he found 4 songs on it that he had not been able to find anywhere else. He is a hard person to buy for. Thank you for helping me make him happy. Delivery was very fast, especially right before Christmas.

Happy Amazon Customer. The Chess box series is a wet dream for any collector, just packaging wise only 2or 3 CDs worth, but packaged in a LP sized box, with a large acompioning booklet. These boxes stem from an era, when box sets, really were boxes.

In addition, I would argue, that the content on theses boxes is the zenith of any of these artist careers. This is the cram of the crop!!!

This is a must for all true blues fans, the Chess box set of the basic Muddy. All his classic hits as perhaps the greatest post-WW II influence on later blues artists and many of the rockers too. One person found this helpful. On our Grandson's Christmas list. He was really pleased. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. If you like Muddy Waters you'll love this compilation, great value for the money. Report abuse.

The item arrived exactly as described, and before I expected it. John Quaintance of Yahoo! Music called it "a remarkable album" and a "return to form" for Muddy Waters, commenting that "Johnny Winter, James Cotton, Pinetop Perkins, Bob Margolin, Charles Calmese and Willie "Big Eyes" Smith are all thrilled to be in the same room with Muddy, and it shows, as they lay down a serious foundation for the old master who struts and brags like it's again.

In his consumer guide for The Village Voice , Robert Christgau attributed the record's intense quality to "the natural enthusiasm of an inspired collaboration", and remarked on its standing in Chicago blues , "except maybe for B. King 's Live at the Regal and Otis Spann 's Walking the Blues oh, there must be others, but let me go on I can't recall a better blues album than this.
